WEEK 6 | BUMPY BUT BELIEVING
A smoky delay couldn’t stop Rider Nation, but Week 6 delivered more clouds than just on the horizon.
After an unexpected 15-hour postponement due to poor air quality, the Saskatchewan Roughriders finally took the field at Mosaic Stadium for a much-anticipated West Division showdown against the Calgary Stampeders. The stakes were high: both teams at the top of the West, the Riders protecting an undefeated record, and fans ready for fireworks.
What did they get instead? A tough pill to swallow.
A Game in the Waiting
Originally set for Friday night, the game was pushed to Saturday afternoon due to wildfire smoke drifting across Regina — a rare occurrence, but one that didn’t rattle all-star special teamer Jaxon Ford. Despite playing with a cast on his hand, the Regina-born DB was named the CFL’s top special-teams player of the week with an 84.6 PFF rating. That kind of effort didn’t go unnoticed:
Unfortunately, Ford’s resilience wasn’t enough to prevent a 37–20 loss — the Riders’ first of the 2025 season.
Rider Performance in One Word
This week’s word cloud was a far cry from the Week 1 “Exciting” and “Awesome.”
Fan sentiment after Week 6 was dominated by:
“Disappointed”, “Frustrating”, “Bad”, “Sad”, “Flat”, and even “Uninspired”.
While a few hopeful words like “Good” and “Amazing” made cameos, the mood shift was loud and clear.

Fan Outlook
The green wave dipped slightly this week, but it didn’t crash. Fans rated their overall optimism about the Riders at 7.16/10, down from the Week 1 high but still showing that Rider Nation hasn’t lost faith.
- 🔼 22% rated the team 9–10 (very positive)
- 🟢 48% sat at a cautious 7–8
- 🔻 17% reported lower confidence (1–5 scores)

Rate Rider Performance
The result? Fans weren’t exactly thrilled — and it shows.
Only 22% of fans said they were “very happy” or “somewhat happy” with the team’s performance in Week 6. A large portion of the team’s possessions landed in neutral or hostile territory, citing missed tackles, defensive gaps, and a sluggish first half.

Next Game Prediction: Week 7
Despite the setback, confidence heading into Saturday’s matchup against the BC Lions remains solid.
- 🟩 Riders: 80% of fans still believe the bounce-back is coming
- 🟧 Lions: 6% predicting a win for BC

The Road Ahead
There’s no panic in the locker room — and certainly none from fans just yet. As Jaxon Ford put it, “We’ve got to clean up the little things… play as a unit.” That’s precisely what the Riders will aim to do when they hit the road for Vancouver.
Quarterback Trevor Harris returns to the lineup, looking to restart the momentum that had Rider Nation roaring through four straight wins. With A.J. Ouellette leading the CFL in rushing and the offence still topping the league in points per game, there’s reason to believe Week 6 was just a bump — not a backslide.
